It is a great privilege to serve as the Superintendent for the School Town of Highland. I was drawn to Highland because of its great reputation for academic achievement, stability, and numerous student opportunities. I recently spent four years as the Superintendent for the North Newton School Corporation. Previous to my time at North Newton, I was a teacher and administrator in Fort Wayne Community School District for fifteen years. My wife Sallie and I have a fifteen and an eleven year old daughter. We are extremely excited to become members of the Highland Community.
For the 2012/2013 School Year, Highland High School received a 4 Star Rating. This accomplishment could only occur with a collaborative effort from the students, staff, and community.
I have found the School Town of Highland School Corporation to be the best kept secret in the “Region.” Student achievement far out paces other districts with the same socio economic status. Highland offers several Advanced Placement and college duel credit courses. I find it refreshing to be a part of a smaller school district, yet still have many of the same programs our neighboring districts offer.
As superintendent, my duty is to ensure all students are educated to their highest levels. Education is very different compared to most adult educational experiences. The skills and proficiencies students need to be successful are evolving, as should their preparation. Student instruction must be differentiated, meeting the needs of all students.
I want to thank all of you who have made my family and I feel welcomed. I look forward to working with the Highland educational community to provide the best education for all of our students. Please feel free to say hello when you see me out and about.
Yours in Education,
